Dexter 3X09: That's What I'm Talking About! POSTED AT 09:31 PM in Dexter, Get the Popcorn Poppin' OMG. Episode 3x09 "About Last Night" freakin rocks. SWEET JESUS! That was so crazy! This is the exact reason why I'm watching this show. Just when you thought the season's all slow and will never live up to the brilliant first two seasons, think again. IT'S SHOWTIME! *Don't watch unless you're up to date with Dexter episodes*
Now that's what I call GOOD TV. It's as amazing as that scene in season 2 where Dexter headbutted Doakes and said "I own you." I wonder though, does Miguel know that Dexter killed his brother, or does he know that he was the true Bay Harbor Butcher? (Because hello, he should have guessed/inferred by now that Doakes was not a serial killer.) OR DOES HE KNOW BOTH? OMG. So excited!!! Thank God there's going to be Season 4 and Season 5. Yehey for Showtime! God bless Cable TV (in the US of course). Clap clap clap to the writers, Tania

Interesting Films I Have Seen Lately POSTED AT 03:04 AM in Get the Popcorn Poppin' as a favorite post I have wanted to see these films for sometime now (they are in fact part of my "must-see films list"), and thanks to my friendly neighborhood pirata, my dreams have been fulfilled. I knew they were great films, but I never thought how great they really were until I put them on my DVD player.
A CLOCKWORK ORANGE (1971/Stanley Kubrick)
Wicked, wicked, wicked! Love love LOVE this film! It has undoubtedly become one of my favorite films of all time (which are quite many I must admit). I've been reading/hearing so much about it lately that when I read about it in a book in Power Books (I think the title was On Location, a book about famous films and famous cities where they were shot), it has become part of my must-see list. And when I saw it in within the pile of DVDs from my very friendly neighborhood pirata (because believe me, you won't find this in record stores and because I'm starting to get fond of blu-ray pirated copies which are super super clear by the way), I didn't think twice. I love that it was set in my favorite city London, and of course I love that it's British. I also love that the main character loves my favorite Symphony No. 9 by Beethoven. The story is out of this world and shocking, but THE IMAGERY IS SOOO IMPECCABLE, every frame can be an artshot. Seriously. Kubrick is a genius. Prepared to be shocked though, because it is shocking, but surprisingly amazing and amusing at the same time. Perfect cinematic blend of sex and violence. Or ultraviolence, as they called it in the film. And the language is wicked. Malcolm McDowell as Alex is pure luvvv. Pitch perfect for the role. THELMA AND LOUISE (1991/Ridley Scott)
Aside from Y Tu Mama Tambien, this has got to be one of the best roadtrip films of all time. I thought it was just a chick flick (well it still is), but I never thought it was THAT good. I think I saw a glimpse of this before somewhere, but I can't remember. All I can say was OMG. Susan Sarandon and Geena Davis sure are femme fatales. This film spells how-fucked-up-can-you-get. Come on. How crazy can it get really? And when Brad Pitt appeared (as a very hottt cowboy may I add, even a little hotter than in Legends of the Fall), all I can say was AYOWN! AYOWN NAMAN! I suddenly remembered that this is where he got famous! Oo nga. That scene with the cowboy hat and hairdryer is iconic. And that scene with Geena Davis... SO-HOT. If you "guys" want to know what happens to girls when you don't treat them right, then watch this, and watch your jaws drop. ALMOST FAMOUS (2001/Cameron Crowe)
This film literally rocks and rolls. I have been looking for a film like this for sooo long, and here it is. Starts of with my favorites Zooey Deschanel and Frances McDormand, and I knew just then this would be interesting. And then Kate Hudson as the infamous Penny Lane. I am so in love with this film because it sums up my feelings about music, dreams, and well, what I guessed as the thesis of the movie --- home. It made me want to download every rock and roll album there is, which is quite impossible because they are so freakin many. So I guess I'll start with the greatest hits of each band, or Tommy by The Who, light a candle, and maybe I'll see my future too. Haha. People who have a fear of flying should never (I repeat, never) see this movie or else they surely won't fly ever again. Hahahaha. Awesome awesome writing, and I can't believe this actually happened to Cameron Crowe - well not all of the stuff, but as a rock and roll journalist.
Three thumbs up, Tania |

Bakbakan POSTED AT 02:52 AM in Shoobidoowaps and Scoobysnacks If my future grandchildren suddenly went crazy and asked me "Lola, have you ever witnessed a bakbakan? You know, like FPJ-tsugush-tsugush style?"... ... I can definitely say "Oh. Yes mga apo!" *But then again they wouldn't probably know FPJ right? The heck. Maygawd. I never thought I'd be able to see one in my entire life. Today Yesterday while I was riding the jeepney, this man beside me, who I assumed to be in his 50s asked the driver to stop just when we crossed an intersection. The other side was usually busy because of a bank there, and so the driver naturally had a hard time pulling off. Because we were seated far back / at the end, it seemed (at least to him and at least for a moment to me) that the driver didn't hear him. Naturally, this guy started repeating "para" and also started getting louder. By the time the driver started pulling off, apparently having found an empty spot far from the intersection, the man beside me went ballistic. I don't remember details and dialogues very well, but I do remember him shouting at the driver with all his might, cursing, cussing, and what have you. The natural suddenly became unnatural. Of course the driver fought back with words, defending himself (and apparently I found out later that all of us in the jeepney thought that he was just finding a good spot to stop and the extra 50 meters of walk isn't really a burden). Anyways, all of a sudden they went into this "Ano?! Ano?! Ano?!" fight (you know, like grade school bullies), and before we knew it, the man beside me jumped out of the jeepney, approached the driver, then the driver jumped out, pushed each other, and well as you might have predicted, challenged each other for a fistfight. And then and there, in the middle of the road... well not really the middle, more of the side of the road, but still with vehicles passing by on the inner lane, they fought like action stars. NO KIDDING. It's strange that I'm finding this funny now that I'm writing about it, but at that time I was scared and stunned (a part of me kind of amused though) because I was at the very end of the jeepney, and God knows if either of these men had guns or knives or whatever, I was very out in the open right? Anyways, I don't really remember an image of them actually hitting each other, but maybe in real life it was faster (unlike Pinoy movies where the punch gets stuck in the skin for more than a second) since after a while I think the driver's nostrils were bleeding. The stuff that the man carried around in his pockets were suddenly scattered on the road, and just when you thought it was over, they got back to each other landing punch after punch, the driver landing on his bum, and the passengers all stunned. Some of us started to get out of the jeepney; I did too, fearing that this will go on forever or that they might have hidden weapons somewhere. Like a Pinoy movie, there were lots of usiseros, and none had the guts to cut it out until later because hey, this is actually fun. (Not funny I mind you. Fun in a certain way though.) At last the brawl stopped even before I got the chance to ride another jeepney. I remembered that I paid already. Wahahaha. Not that I was too worried of my 8 pesos (but then again it's 8 pesos), but I was quite in a hurry and the jeepney was already filled with passengers meaning it'll be faster. So I went in again, and so did the other passengers who came out for a while. The jeepney driver got back in, tried to dry his wound/blood, but realized that it's not really a good idea to drive anymore, and ask one of his friends who were nearby to drive instead. The last image I saw of the man was he picking up his stuff in his tattered clothes. I wondered how he got home / how he got to where he was going with that look.
So what's the lesson learned, you ask? Many. 1) The next time you're driving and you get pissed off by a jeepney driver pulling off at the wrong spots, think again. It's not entirely his fault. Maybe he's pressured by seemingly war-freak passengers who don't know how to drive. Talk about pressure. 2) I can never understand boys and aggression. We are not on a warzone kiddos. And this is definitely not some RPG game or FPJ movie. 3) Walking extra meters isn't that bad. 4) Don't panic. Ika nga ni Olive Snook, Season 2, Episode 6 of Pushing Daisies, "Isn't it funny how easy it is to remain calm when everyone else is freaking out?" and 5) Maybe there's too much FPJ action flicks, Tania

This or This POSTED AT 01:40 AM in Eraserheads, Get the Popcorn Poppin', No Rhyme No Reason Today Yesterday I tumbled upon a quite serious dilemma after watching a segment of ANC. Never thought ANC can be as interesting as MTV. Anyways, it came down to two choices for an opening week:
Wahahahaha. Okay. First of all, I know that Twilight is sooo hyped up that I don't mind watching it, just for the sake of watching a sure blockbuster hit. (No, I don't read the novels. Don't get upset, I haven't even read Harry Potter.) Plus, I kinda like vampires so let's see... But I'm not too sure. The reviews are not quite good and I ABSOLUTELY DOUBT that the material is as good as Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. (Yes, I am a sucker for Lestat.) Of course I can't judge the "material" because I haven't read it, but by the way it is promoted and filmed, I just don't know. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone movie did better with the critics. Anyways. So I thought that Twilight will be the only sensible choice that week... until ANC last morning. I can't find a video clip but I found an article and a picture from supreme.ph that will sum up what I saw...
Spotted on the rightmost part of the photo, two former legendary bandmates of a legendary band. Apparently they were having a photoshoot for a magazine together with other rock "legends". Aside from the fact that Ely and Raimund seemed "sweet" and makulit in the ANC news segment, I got excited over the announcement they made: an Eraserheads Reunion Movie!!! Wooohoooo! I remembered Raimund joking about the movie they did as a band ages ago (if you would recall, Run Barbie Run), and now this time he said there would be an Eraserheads movie. I thought that it would be weeks or months from now before we see it on screen, but apparently, TRINOMA HAS PUT UP A MOVIE POSTER ALREADY IN ITS NEXT ATTRACTION DISPLAY. There you go. SONY BMG is really clever. Why release nga naman a DVD lang when you can show it first in the theaters? Hahahaha. Grabe na ito. Whatttaband talaga. Sa history ata ng Pinoy cinema, wala pang "concert" na kinailangang i-movie house pa. Susyal. Since I'm on a budget, I only want to watch one in the cinemas. I can certainly just get a copy of the concert when it's released noh? Pero papatulan ko ba ang Twilight? That is the question. Come to think of it, pinatulan ko rin pala ang For The First Time. Hahaha. But then again that was for my mom (who by the way, I just loathe at this moment). Hmmm... Which which which, Tania

Just A Thought Vol. 4 POSTED AT 10:52 PM in Just A Thought Actually, three thoughts / realizations:
1. I don't like people who don't seem affected by things, events, and other people around them. When I say "affected", I mean GENUINELY affected, inside and out. To be more precise, I don't like people who don't breakdown. (Yes you heard me right. "There is beauty in breakdown." Kung tumatawa sila to cover up, or kung poker-face lang, I should see in their eyes if they are affected. Because believe me, there are people who don't seem to feel anything. And it makes me nuts because somehow, I feel everything. I hate being intense, but I guess this is the way I am.
2. You know you are with a true friend if with him/her you can actually like/love things that you pretend not to like/love.
3. Even if we debate about this over and over, man is not free. Ika nga ng The Verve: "Trying to make ends meet, you're a slave to money then you die." Saklap. Sagad sa buto sa katotohanan. Now who the hell is free? Epiphanies, Tania |
